Even Sunshine Burns

A poem.

Field of Wishes
Jan 10, 2021

I held a glimpse of inspiration
but I lost it
somewhere between self-respect
and trying to make peace.
I fell and everything slipped
right out of my pocket.
Everything in it.
The images, the trinkets,
my safest parts.
It all clattered to the pavement,
hot in the “there you are” sun.
The world saw me,
but I wasn’t ready.
