The Music of Our Lives

A poem.

You,
you look at me like I could write the lyrics
to the music of your life.
But the truth is,
I,
I distinctly remember the last tune
that fell off the track.
The truth is,
you,
you were my first.
My first dance after my lovely melody
turned melancholy.
I will likely never see you again.
But he,
he will linger on like a haunting chorus.
Drowning out the rest of the world
with delicate catchy sadness.

But records become classics
and those classics fade away.
A new tune will take up residency
on my lips.
