The Relationship Cycle

A poem.

In the beginning, it was electric,
a shock to a long asleep system.
Or maybe it had awoken on its own.
The catalyst disguised by a weakness,
connections constantly jarring
instantly spring hope, excitement
possibilities where none were seen before.
What was it about new attention
that drove her so?

Always living for another
maybe that’s why they always wilted
she thought she was being herself,
comfortable finally with another
so easy it had to be right
what drove it to the left then?

Eventually she would crash,
her good vibes would cease
caught up in the expectations
of a harsh reality
she would fall
need help back —
she’d outstretch her hand
and only find air.
