This is my last love letter

A poem.

I don’t regret all the words written
to ease you out of my soul.
I don’t regret the words of love,
of hatred, of longing, of indifference
to shake you from my limbs.

The years we spent together
were good and bad.
I have memories of joy
and tear stains.

I don’t regret our time together
for I learned so much of myself
from being yours.
I learned to put myself first.
I learned that love can burn
with its fierceness
but also simmer past the heartache.

I don’t regret loving you
because now I’m learning
to love myself.
